Armored Core 6, FromSoftwareās upcoming mech combat game, has a six-player online mode, according to a leaked image of its box.
Thereās just over a month before the launch of Armored Core 6: Fires of the Rubicon, FromSoftwareās reboot of the mech combat series. And, according to a leaked photo of the gameās box, shared on Reddit, Armored Core 6 will also provide online multiplayer support for up to six players.
The back cover, as reported by Eurogamer, also reveals that three further players will be able to spectate on those multiplayer matches.
Armored Core began life on the original PlayStation in 1997, and the series has built up a dedicated following for its customisable mechs, world-building, and mixture of single-player and multiplayer action. Although there have been numerous spin-offs, the last numbered sequel was Armored Core: Verdict Day in 2013, which featured multiplayer battles between teams of mechs.
The latest entry is therefore billed as a rebirth for the series, with the expected mech customisation joined by aggressive, visceral combat that takes in a hint of what FromSoftware delivered in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. While the base format of the Armored Core games and Armored Core 6 is very different from that of the Souls series and games like Sekiro,ā game director Masaru Yamamura told Eurogamer in April, āwe have tried to incorporate some of that design philosophy and our experience over the last several years.ā
Reports of Armored Core's six-player mode comes hot on the metallic mech heels of a new story trailer, which shows that the seriesā desaturated, gritty sci-fi world is back and looking more detailed and delicious than ever.
The Armored Core series has long had its hardcore fans; itāll be interesting to see whether the colossal success of Elden Ring will coax a wider audience into giving FromSoftwareās latest mech game a try.
Armored Core 6: Fires of the Rubicon launches on 25 August for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
