Free-to-play mobile spin-off Assassin’s Creed Jade begins its closed beta test on 3 August. Registrations are open right now.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, the upcoming free-to-play mobile murder sim, is about to enter a closed beta phase. As noted by VGC, beta testing will begin on 3 August, and registration is currently open on Codename Jade’s fancy website.
A joint venture between Ubisoft and Tencent-owned studio Level Infinite, Codename Jade is set in ancient China, and will allow players to “journey through 2,000 years of history” – presumably while also sneaking up behind people and stabbing them.
“Explore the path of Zia in the first unifed [sic] empire of China,” the game’s website says. “Protect your home from Xiongnu raiders behind the Great Wall. Experience the blooming trade and cultural exchanges between East and West in the imperial city of Xianyang.”
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade was first announced in September 2022, and it didn’t take long before footage began to leak from its alpha test phase. Much of it was swiftly hunted down and deleted, but some clips still remain, such as the one below, which shows the player infiltrating an official’s heavily-defended base.
Visually, it looks much like you’d expect for an Assassin’s Creed game; there’s much sneaking around, loitering on rooftops, and, pivotally, the time-honoured tradition of diving off a roof into a cartful of hay.
Codename Jade is but one of several Assassin’s Creed games that are in varying stages of development across Ubisoft’s battery of studios. A report in early July suggested that there are no fewer than 11 Assassin’s Creed games in the works, with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage being the one closest to release – it’s due out for PC and consoles in October.
Codename Jade is in development for Android and iOS, and a firm release date has yet to be set.
