The search for the next James Bond has begun, but thereā€™s little point holding your breath just yet. Inevitably, they continue to play their cards relatively close to their chest, but the overseers of the James Bond franchise – producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson – have given a fresh interview where the future of the 007 franchise has inevitably arisen. Chatting to Variety, they repeat their regular mantra that it’s “early days” for the casting of Daniel Craig’s replacement, and that “it’s going to be a couple of years off”. ā€œIt’s not just about casting an actor for a film. It’s about a reinvention, and where are we taking it? What do we want to do with the character? ā€¦ And then, once we figure that out, who’s the right person for that particular reinvention?ā€ The size of the commitment comes through in the interview as well, as is the changing world in which Bond will operate. Plus, the after-effects of Craig’s tenure in the role. “It’s an evolution”, Broccoli tells the outlet. “Bond is evolving just as men are evolving. I don’t know who’s evolving at a faster pace”. The bottom line of the interview is a bit of don’t hold your breath, but there’s a clear indication the work on building to the next 007 is underway. As ever, when we hear more, we’ll let you know. But then, in truth, so will half of the internet. The full interview is here.
