The new Barbie movie has become Warner Bros’ biggest film ever at the box office in America – and the home rollout is starting in September.
Little doubt what the biggest film of the summer has been, with Greta Gerwig’s triumphant and wonderful Barbie movie cruising past $1bn worldwide with the kind of ease that Marvel movies used to manage. Taking extra fuel from an unlikely double bill with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the film has become the biggest grossing film in Warner Bros history in the US. And yet, in under 45 days from its release, the studio is making it available via on demand.
This is just in the US at the moment, but the UK can’t be far behind. A date of September 5th has been announced in America, where the film will be available to buy digitally for $19.99. Terrifying, the price in the UK looks currently to be set at £22.49 for a premium digital download. You can find the listing for it here.
That price will tumble heading into autumn, with the movie also now getting a 4K disc release on top of the DVD and Blu-ray variants. No release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted there.
