Beetlejuice 3 is supposedly happening but it seems Tim Burton isn’t aware of its “imminent” production. Uh-oh.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s “macabre, wildly funny ode to creativity” was a box office success and naturally, Warner Bros. was looking to make more. In fact, we reported in April 2025 that Beetlejuice 3 was officially moving ahead. Great news, right?
Well, it might not be quite so simple, after all.
Burton, together with Jenna Ortega, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to chat all things Wednesday season 2. THR asked Burton about Beetlejuice 3 and its “imminent” production as promised by Warner Bros. Pictures CEO Michael DeLuca.
“Really? Nobody told me. Maybe I’ve been replaced,” Burton said, prompting Ortega, who played Astrid in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, to also confess she hadn’t heard anything about another film.
Burton doesn’t seem too keen on making another one, either. Not only does the director think he’ll be 105 by the time another film gets out – it took 35 years to get Beetlejuice Beetlejuice into cinemas – but he just doesn’t see it happening.
Burton said making Beetlejuice 3 is “like trying to re-create the Wednesday dance scene. I love the characters, but I don’t necessarily see it.”
Both Burton and Ortega don’t want anyone else to do the sequel either. Burton admitted feeling protective and possessive over the characters, even if he doesn’t legally own them and Ortega said she wouldn’t sign on without Burton’s involvement.
“I also think anybody would be really wrong to get behind that project. Without him involved, what is it? It is what it is because of Tim. There’s no other film you can compare Beetlejuice to. So why would you do that? That would be a tad disrespectful,” the actress said.
It certainly doesn’t look too good for Beetlejuice 3 and it remains to be seen if Warner Bros. either manages to convince Burton to return to the franchise or if they’d move ahead without him.
We’ll keep you posted.
