The Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot is moving forward and the new cast includes a familiar face for fans of Severance. More on the show below.
Whether or not we need it, the Buffy The Vampire Slayer reboot/sequel series is definitely on the way. Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, recently shared a photo of a roundtable read of the new series, confirming that this isn’t just a dream. Our favourite Slayer really is returning to our screens.
The new series will star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as a new Slayer while Gellar is set to return as Buffy, presumably as a mentor of sorts for Armstrong’s character. Official plot details are still being kept secret but more cast members have joined the project.
As Variety details, Faly Rakotohavana, Ava Jean, Sarah Bock, Daniel di Tomasso, and Jack Cutmore-Scott have all joined the show. Bock will be a familiar face for Severance fans; the 18-year-old actress played the mysterious Ms. Huang in the second season of the AppleTV+ show.
Chloé Zhao, the Oscar-winning director of Nomadland and a life-long Buffy fan, is set to direct the pilot episode of the new series. She’s clearly not just an excellent director, but has good taste in TV, too.
The original Buffy The Vampire Slayer ran from 1997 to 2003 before moving to the pages of a comic book. It remains to be seen if the new series can capture the unique tone of the original series and justify its existence. Regardless, this writer can’t wait.
We’ll bring you more news on Buffy The Vampire Slayer as we hear them.
