Bunk’d, which is currently the Disney Channel’s longest running sitcom, is to conclude after the seventh series.

From early 2000s classics like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire to The Suite Life franchise, That’s So Raven and the hugely succesful Hannah Montana (which was spun off into feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009), Disney’s formula of well cast, high concept sitcoms has put it at the top of the tween sitcom tree for several decades.

One of its more recent successes was Jessie, which provided a star vehicle for Debby Ryan after several years in The Suite Life On Deck.

The show saw Ryan play the titular character, who acted as a nanny for three kids – Zuri, Ravi, Luke and Emma, played by Skai Jackson, Karen Brar, Cameron Boyce and Peyton List, respectively. Jessie grew into one of Dusney’s most popular shows and eventually ran from 2011 to 2015.

After four seasons, in 2015 creator and writer Pamela Eells O’Connell created the spin-off Bunk’d, which saw Jackson, Brar and List reprise their roles, as Emma and Ravi become counsellors at Camp Kikiwaka. Boyce guest starred in the show, but very sadly passed away in 2019.

Production on the seventh series was halted due to the strikes, with filming completed for 12 of the 20 episodes.

Disney has now ordered an additional two episodes, and production on the remaining ten episodes is currently underway.

Ayo Davis, President, Disney Branded Television, said in a statement to Deadline:

“With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest-running and successful live-action series. We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons”.

Davis’ team are developing several new sitcoms for 2024. More on those in due course, we’d imagine…
