We learned last year that Paramount was working on a movie adaptation of one of the biggest first-person shooter video games, Call Of Duty. Peter Berg will be directing and co-writing the script with Taylor Sheridan.
At CinemaCon, Paramount did a big presentation on its upcoming slate and confirmed that the Call Of Duty movie would hit cinemas 30th June 2028.
According to Deadline’s reporting, Berg said he feels “deeply connected to the special operations community” and he will deliver “authenticity” and “really big scope” with the Call Of Duty movie.
Berg and Sheridan will also produce the film with David Glasser, and Rob Kostich. Activision is also involved in developing and producing the movie.
Kostich, via a pre-recorded tape, described they’re working with Paramount because they only wanted to make the film with “the right leadership, someone who cares about the IP as much as we do, and in David Ellison we found that partnership.”
The audience were also treated to a sizzle reel shown to the CinemaCon audience, but it was almost entirely composed of video game footage. With a release date so far away still, that’s not surprising, but the plot of the films is still under tight wraps.
Call Of Duty has been going for over 20 years, with the first game released in 2003. There are over 20 main games in the series with several spin-off and free-to-play games, making Call Of Duty one of the biggest and most successful video game franchises ever.
