Capcom continues to shift millions of games, with Resident Evil topping its list of best-selling franchises.

That sound of clinking you can hear in the background? Thatā€™s my dishwasher running. But if you happened to be sitting in Capcomā€™s offices right now, the clinking might be champagne glasses ā€“ or maybe cups of tea of coffee itā€™s the morning in Japan.

At any rate, Capcom has published its latest quarterly earnings statement, and predictably, it reveals itā€™s sold absolutely shedloads of games this year. Shedloads.

Put in slightly more mathematical terms, Capcom says that itā€™s managed to ā€œachieve 11 consecutive years of full-year operating profit growthā€, with this past financial year boosted by the storming success of Street Fighter 6, which has so far sold 2 million copies since its launch in early June. Then thereā€™s the slightly older Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is closing in on the 5 million copies mark.

The bigger surprise, perhaps even to Capcom, is just how well the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection's two volumes have sold ā€“ altogether, they shifted 1.32 million units. Itā€™s a testament, really, to just how much of a dedicated following the Mega Man games still have.

In fact, Mega Man figures highly in the list of Capcomā€™s best-selling franchises. On the last page of the Japanese firmā€™s statement, youā€™ll find a list of its most popular series, ranked by their cumulative sales. It goes like this:

  • Resident Evil ā€“ 146 million units
  • Monster Hunter ā€“ 94 million units
  • Street Fighter ā€“ 52 million units
  • Mega Man ā€“ 40 million units
  • Devil May Cry ā€“ 29 million units
  • Dragonā€™s Dogma ā€“ 7.7 million units

Thatā€™s a lot of units. And itā€™s interesting to see Dragonā€™s Dogma holding its own among such esteemed company, given that itā€™s only had one release in its fledgling series so far (Dragonā€™s Dogma 2 is on the way at some point). Hereā€™s hoping that the success of the recent Battle Network Legacy Collection will convince Capcom to do a bit more with the charming (if rock hard) Mega Man series, too.

Sad to see the Ghouls ā€˜N Ghosts series hasnā€™t ranked more highly on the list, though.
