Cameras are rolling on Vaughn’s latest foray into the espionage action genre, Argylle: more on it here. Production has begun on Matthew Vaughn’s latest film, Argylle. The spy thriller, which is a joint collaboration between Vaughn’s MARV Studios and Apple Original Films, has added Ariana DeBose (Schmigadoon!) to an exciting cast which already features the likes of Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Samuel L Jackson and pop star Dua Lipa. With DeBose’s casting, the ensemble, it would seem, is complete. The premise of the film is as such: ‘A best-selling spy novelist turns out to be a world-class spy suffering from amnesia. Tricked into thinking she is a writer, her lethal skills return with her memories, setting her down a path of revenge against the shadowy organisation she used to work for, the Division.’ Bryce Dallas Howard is set to play the film’s lead, with Sam Rockwell as her romantic interest whilst Samuel L. Jackson will feature as a rogue agent trying to expose the corruption within the spy network. Vaughn has spoken of the project, based on the book by Ellie Conway, stating previously that “when I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre. We have assembled an absolutely stellar cast to inhabit each of the wonderfully original and captivating characters in this thrill ride of a story,” Vaughn added. “We’re so excited that production is now off and running, bringing us closer to sharing this epic action spectacle with audiences around the world.” No release date has yet been slated, but we’ll let you know as we hear more.
