The Batman star Zoë Kravitz will join Austin Butler in Aronofskyās 90s-set New York thriller, Caught Stealing.
Zoë Kravitz is reportedly in talks to star opposite Austin Butler in Darren Aronofskyās next project, Caught Stealing. Butlerās involvement in the project was announced back in March, just as Butler was riding high off the back of a lauded villainous turn in Denis Villeneuveās Dune: Part Two. We havenāt heard much in the way of news since regarding the film, which is still in pre-production.
It looks like Aronofsky may have found his other lead for the film, however, with Kravitz is in advanced talks to join the production according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actor is in the midst of an impressive run herself, having made a splash as Selina Kyle in 2022ās The Batman before turning her attention to directing in the last couple of years. Kravitzās retitled directorial debut, Blink Twice releases next month.
Aronofsky, the director of The Wrestler, Black Swan and more besides, is known for teasing career-high performances out of his stars, not least Brendan Fraserās lead turn in 2022ās The Whale, which saw the actor win an Oscar.
Given how offbeat some of Aronofskyās films can be, the setup for Caught Stealing sounds surprisingly straightforward, at least on paper. The project is based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston, who also wrote the script. The story, per the logline, āfollows Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, who’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.ā
Specific detail is another hallmark of Aronofskyās, so itās exciting to imagine just how the filmmaker and his collaborators might bring the New York backdrop to life. We still donāt have a production date or a release window for Caught Stealing, but weāll let you know when that changes.
