Edward Berger’s papal drama Conclave is scheduled to hit UK cinemas in late November. More on the film below.
The trailer for Conclave, Edward Berger’s upcoming drama set in the Vatican, was released last month and we’re intrigued by its premise. Ralph Fiennes leads an impressive ensemble cast in this story about choosing the next Pope. As if that wasn’t dramatic enough, it seems that there’s a hint of conspiracy going on too.
When the trailer landed, we didn’t have a set release date for the film, but that has now been rectified. Conclave will officially hit UK screens on 29th November.
Here’s the trailer, to refresh your memory.
There’s not a whole more to this story. We simply wanted to let you know when the film is coming out, but to please the SEO lords, we’ll waffle on a bit longer.
Conclave is based off Richard Harris’ novel of the same name. Berger is, as you know, directing and Peter Straughan has penned the script for the film. Fiennes is joined by ā deep breath ā Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Brían F. O’Byrne, Carlos Diehz, Merab Ninidze, Thomas Loibl, Sergio Castellitto and Isabella Rossellini in the film’s cast.
The film is heading to the Toronto International Film Festival for its International premiere and Variety seems to think that Conclave will have its world premiere at Telluride. All of this would suggest that Conclave might be a major player in next year’s awards season, especially with such a starry cast.
Here’s the official synopsis, in italics: From director Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) CONCLAVE follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.
Catch the film in UK cinemas 29th November.
