Disney has delayed several of its projects, leaving Deadpool 3 as its only Marvel release in 2024.

After 118 gruelling days on the picket lines, the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike finally concluded this week after Hollywood’s major studios and SAG-AFTRA came to an agreement over issues such as use of AI and streaming residuals.

Production is back on for many exciting motion pictures, but the delays keep on coming. On Thursday (9th November), Disney announced a major shake-up to its release calendar, leaving us with only one Marvel movie for 2024. We’ll let you decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.

Deadpool 3, which had already shot some material, is resuming production shortly, but it has moved from its 3rd May release date to 26th July 2024, giving director Shawn Levy and his team a couple more months to work on the film. Additionally, Captain America: Brave New World has shifted all the way to 14th February, 2025, so that’s your Valentine’s Day plans sorted, over a year in advance. You can thank us later.

Curiously, Brave New World had completed principal production before the strike. Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon is set to assume the title of Captain America in that film. As noted by Variety, it’s not unusual that films of this scale will need reshoots (just ask James Wan), but it’s still an unusually long delay for a movie that has finished filming.

The Thunderbolts, another Marvel team-up film, has moved to 25th July, 2025 from its original December 2024 date and Blade, which has already faced several delays and behind-the-scenes issues, is now set for 7th November, 2025 release. Disney also moved Barry Jenkins’ upcoming Lion King sequel/prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King from July 2024, to 20th December 2024.

2023 has been particularly packed for Marvel. The year kicked off rather anticlimactically with Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, but Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 was like a breath of fresh air in May. The Marvels, which has arguably suffered without any press and promo from its actors, is in cinemas now, but it’s projected to have one of the lowest, if not the lowest, opening weekends of a Marvel movie.

So perhaps a year with only one Marvel adventure will be a nice change of pace, for both the studio and audiences worldwide. Deadpool 3 is set to bring Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine and the first photo of Deadpool and Wolverine together set the internet into a frenzy with Wolverine suited and booted in his comic-accurate costume. Reynolds also showed off Dogpool on Instagram, another ridiculously cute addition to the film.
