Amazonā€™s post-apocalyptic Fallout TV series has proven so popular that season 2 has already been officially commissioned.

Having garnered glowing reviews and generated all sorts of chatter online, Fallout has already proven popular enough that Amazon MGM has commissioned a second series.

The eight-episode Fallout TV series made its debut on the 10th April, and its streaming success is such that sales of the videogames itā€™s based on have shot up in the days since.

Capitalising on all the interest in the franchiseā€™s retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic universe, the TV showā€™s makers have come forward to announce the second season, and also heap praise on everyone involved.

“The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise,ā€ said Amazon MGM Studios boss Jennifer Salke, in a statement to Variety weā€™ve edited for brevity. ā€œWe are thrilled to announce season two after only one week out and take viewers even farther into the surreal world of Fallout.”

It hasnā€™t been said whether series one stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten or Walton Goggins are returning for the second season yet, but theyā€™ll almost certainly have something written in an arcane contract that says they have to come back for more Fallout if theyā€™re required to.

Creators Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner certainly seem excited about the seriesā€™ reception. “Holy shit,ā€ the pair said in their own statement. ā€œThank you to Jonah [Jonathan Nolan], Kilter [Films, the production company], Bethesda and Amazon for having the courage to make a show that gravely tackles all of society’s most serious problems these days ā€“ cannibalism, incest, jello cake. More to come!”

A due date for Fallout season two hasnā€™t been announced yet, but given the VFX and general complexity of a sci-fi show such as this, itā€™ll likely be a year or two away. Weā€™ll keep you posted as we learn more.
