A clip shared by Vin Diesel heavily implied that Fast Forever had gone into production; instead, he was recording an advert for the World Cup.
Update: As it turns out, crews are not, in fact, grinding. Last Friday, Vin Diesel prompted all kinds of chatter as he shared a video on Instagram that heavily implied that Fast Forever had finally gone into production.
“I’m on set,” Diesel said in a hushed voice. “People are grinding. Incredible crews are working.”
Yes, Diesel was on set. And yes, crews were working. And yes, Diesel was even wearing his Dominic Toretto muscle outfit. Except he wasn’t making Fast Forever. He was making an advert for the World Cup.

Now, we would never accuse a star as lawyered-up as Diesel of lying by omission. But given he spent that short video thanking fans for their patience, while standing next to a Dodge Charger – the same car from the Fast And Furious movies – is inevitably going to make fans join the dots.
Fast Forever is currently due for release on the 17th March 2028 – assuming it doesn’t get delayed yet again. Presumably, it’ll be going into production soon. Though this time we’ll wait for Universal to make the announcement.

6th July 2026: After three years, word of disagreements over the budget, and multiple script rewrites, it looks as though the sequel to Fast X has finally gone into production.
On Instagram, Vin Diesel published a behind-the-scenes clip from what appears to be the next Fast & Furious movie.
“I’m on set,” Diesel rumbles into his phone camera as crewmembers glance quizzically in his direction. “People are grinding. Incredible crews are working.”
Diesel then thanks audiences for being patient about the next Fast movie, currently due for release in 2028.
“You’ve been patient to the industry, you’ve been patient to the studio, and you’ve been patient with me,” the actor said. “Over the past three and a half years, we’ve been grinding to try to make the most amazing finale.”
Diesel is clearly wearing his character Dominic Toretto’s usual outfit of sleeveless black collared shirt over a vest, and the set he’s in looks strikingly like Toretto’s garage.
The presence of a polished black 1970 Dodge Charger isn’t an accident, either: the V8 monster featured in the 2001 original, and it’s been said for some time now that the eleventh chapter in the saga will be going back to basics, back to Los Angeles and back to the franchise’s illegal street racing roots.
The previous film, Fast X, was originally intended to be the first of a two-part finale, even ending on a cliffhanger. Its wildly overrunning budget (said to be in the range of $380 million) left Universal anxious about costs, and the producers went back to the drawing board. Next came multiple script rewrites and multiple delays
Michael Lesslie was hired as a screenwriter in March 2026, and now, it look as though filming has finally begun.
Oddly, there hasn’t been an official announcement about this from Universal; there’s no confirmed director (though it’s probably Louis Leterrier again) or members of the cast other than Diesel. It’s possible that the film will contain only Diesel and several cars.
Diesel also found a moment to not-so-humbly namedrop a couple of other projects he has on the go: Riddick: Furya, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em, and a glancing mention of his baffling sequel to The Last Witch Hunter, which it’s claimed will see Michael Caine come out of retirement. Caine is now 93.
Fast Forever is due for release on the 17th March 2028. We’ll keep you posted as more clips emerge.
