Podcast-52, a show dedicated to the on-screen DC comics universe, is the latest addition to the Film Stories Podcast Network.
For the past several years, a dedicated Marvel Cinematic Universe podcast, Podcast-616, has brought listeners to Film Stories Podcast Network coverage of every new (and older) Marvel project to date, and now it’s the turn of DC.
Podcast-52 is designed to complement what will hopefully be DC Comics finest cinematic era, examining the new content from the James Gunn era of the studio, while using it as an opportunity to look back at older successes and failures from the wide array of DC’s legendary heroes.
Created by AJ Black, the show is ran under the auspices of DC obsessive Robert Turnbull (co-host of FSPN’s You Have Been Watching, all about British sitcoms), who with a hopefully evolving assortment of co-hosts and guests will delve into a wealth of exciting cinema and TV.
Turnbull said of the project: “I’ve been a DC fan since early childhood, when Christopher Reeve was still wearing tights! Comics, TV and films I loved them all and over the years have taken every opportunity I can to discuss these characters I love so much! With Podcast-52 we’re using the launch of the new DCU as the perfect springboard for a new, focused DC podcast! While the focus is on the ever growing DCU, as part of Podcast-52 we plan to talk all things DC, so in-between new release we’ll be looking back at DC adaptations of old, from George Reeves to Tom Welling, we really will look at all things DC! We might even chat about the odd comic from time to time…”
Black added: “This is a podcast I’ve wanted to see come to fruition for a long, long time to complement our Marvel coverage. The excitement for DC wasn’t there in the same way… except from Rob, who has been panting like Krypto surrounded by dog treats for ages to do this. He’s the perfect steward. And now is absolutely the best time to kick this off with a new Superman and a host of varied new DC projects on the horizon. You’ll believe a podcast can fly!”
And indeed, Superman is the first focus of the show. You’ll find episodes on the initial 1978 Richard Donner Superman, the Rosetta Stone of DC comics cinema, and a deep dive into Gunn’s newest 2025 take, both with guest and Film Stories crew member Maria Latilla in tow.
