The adult animated comedy Fixed, shelved by Warner Bros, has been rehomed at Netflix and will stream in August.

Warner Bros is beginning to build a reputation as a studio that makes films for other companies to release. Following The Day The Earth Blew Up and Coyote Vs Acme, the animated comedy Fixed is the latest Warner movie about to be rescued from the void.

Directed by Hotel Transylvania's Genndy Tartakovsky, Fixed is a 2D-animated adventure about a bloodhound who makes a bid for escape when he learns he’s about to be neutered. Celebrity voices include Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn and Fred Armisen, all playing dogs of one genre or another, and work on the film was completed in 2023 – it was even submitted to the MPAA for certification, and was given an R-rating for its saucy humour.

Fixed was always something of a risk, though, both for its adult tone and its animation style, with most studios regarding the 2D, hand-drawn look as being too outmoded for modern audiences. Warner Bros certainly appeared to get cold feet, as word broke in August 2024 that Fixed was to be shelved as a cost-saving exercise – meaning the film would join the same vault as other deleted Warner Bros films, Batgirl, Scoob! 2 and Coyote Vs Acme.

April brings happier news for Fixed, however. TheWrap reports that it’s found a new home at Netflix, and its release is relatively imminent- the streaming firm plans to upload the comedy to its service in August. Netflix has confirmed the announcement itself on a posting on its website. Meanwhile, Tartakovsky has talked to TheWrap about the project’s rescue by a company that can afford to “take a few more risks.”

“I think it’s a great opportunity and they’re the biggest with content and with viewers,” Tartakovsky said. “For this little movie to then be on the biggest stage is fantastic. I think it could be a water cooler movie. And hopefully it would grow and open up the opportunity to do more and different material, perhaps R-rated animated films.”

Fixed is therefore the latest film rescued from Warner Bros’ pound. In March, it was confirmed that Ketchup Entertainment had acquired Coyote Vs Acme – a hybrid animated and live-action comedy once scheduled for deletion. Following a deal worth a reported $50m, Coyote Vs Acme is due to appear in US cinemas next year.

All of these films, including The Day The Earth Blew Up, also rescued by Ketchup, were victims of Warner Bros’ multi-million dollar merger with Discovery in 2023. In the aftermath, the embiggened company looked around for film projects it could delete in order to claim a tax rebate. Regrettably, nobody’s come forward to save Batgirl or Scoob! 2 from oblivion yet.

Fixed is scheduled to appear on Netflix from the 13th August 2025.
