Mel Gibson goes back behind the camera for Flight Risk, with Mark Wahlberg starring. Here’s the first trailer.
Few could accuse Mel Gibson of playing it safe when it comes to picking his directorial projects, from his debut Man Without A Face to the Oscar-winning Braveheart and the terrific Apocalypto to his last feature to date, war drama Hacksaw Ridge.
Mel Gibson moves closer to blockbuster territory with plane based thriller Flight Risk. The synopsis reads as follows:
“Ya’ll need a pilot?” In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to a trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.
Gibson directs from a screenplay by Jared Rosenberg. There’s a lot of love for the Nicolas Cage classic Con Air, directed by Smon West, round these parts, and the fact that this not only has a similar premise but is also written by someone with the surname Rosenberg (Con Air was penned by Scott Rosenberg, who action cinemas fans everywhere will forever thank for writing the line “put the bunny back in the box”) is worth mentioning.
It’s a busy time for Gibson, who is currently in post-production on his next directorial project, the long mooted sequel Passion Of The Christ: Resurrection, in which Jim Caviezel, Maia Morgenstern and Francesco De Vito will reprise their roles as Jesus, Mary and Joseph, respectively. The film also reunites Gibson with Braveheart writer Randall Wallace, they co-wrote the screenplay.
Gibson also talked about the fact that he will be directing the fifth entry in the Lethal Weapon franchise, in tribute to original director Richard Donner, who got “a fair way into the screenplay” Writers Richard Wenk and Jez Butterworth have reportedly worked on the script. Danny Glover is expected to reprise his role as Murtaugh.
Flight Risk will be released in UK cinemas on 18th October.
