Ridley Scottās sword-and-sandal sequel Gladiator 2 is out in November, but is now undergoing reshoots in Sussex. Paul Mescalās been photographed in his Roman garb.
Filming on Ridley Scottās belated sword-and-sandal sequel Gladiator 2 wrapped in January this year, and the reports from test screenings was highly positive. More recently, however, came news that the production would be gearing back up again for a round of reshoots ā and judging by some recent photographs, theyāre fairly extensive.
Star Paul Mescal has been captured in his full Roman warrior costume, while other candid photos from the set show a huge army of extras and horses in formation ā it looks as though whatās being filmed in a field somewhere in Sussex is some sort of battle sequence.
The images from the reshoots were spotted by World of Reel, and originally published in a British newspaper whose name rhymes with Hazy Jail. We wonāt repost the photos here in case said publication sends its winged lawyers after us.

It looks like a surprisingly complex, large-scale sequence to be adding to a film so late in production (Gladiator 2 is out in November), with what looks like hundreds of extras dressed in Roman centurion armour. Itās possible appearances are deceptive, though.
Gladiator 2 is proving to be an epic in multiple senses of the word. A cut screened in April was said to be a substantial 160 minutes long ā pretty much the same length as its 2000 predecessor. Its cast, besides Mescal as Lucius Verus, includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi. Its budget is also thought to be as high as $310m ā a figure Paramount Pictures has refuted.
Gladiator 2 is out in UK cinemas on the 22nd November 2024.
