Keanu Reeves plays an angel sent to Earth in this upcoming comedy in Good Fortune, from Aziz Ansari. Here’s the first trailer.
Lionsgate has revealed the first trailer for Good Fortune, the upcoming Aziz Ansari comedy that brings a promising cast together with a fun premise for the actor’s long overdue directorial debut. The Parks & Recreation star has been slated to direct his first film for some time, beginning production on a feature back in 2022 that was ultimately scrapped.
Here’s a quick reminder: back in 2022, Ansari was in the midst of production on Being Mortal, a comedy movie he was directing for Searchlight Pictures. During production, an accusation was made about Bill Murray’s on-set conduct which ended up shutting the entire production down permanently.
While Searchlight indicated that it intended to work with Ansari again, it was Lionsgate that ultimately offered him his second chance to make a first impression. Good Fortune focuses ‘on a well-intentioned but slightly clueless angel (Reeves), who intervenes in the lives of a frustrated gig worker (Ansari) and a successful venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).’
The cast also includes Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh.
The film marks the first in a series of comedies for Reeves, who will also play Reef, a damaged Hollywood actor being extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past in Outcome, an upcoming dark comedy written and directed by Jonah Hill for Apple Studios.
Then there’s The Entertainment System Is Down, a darker social satire from Triangle of Sadness’ Ruben Östlund, who has previously said that the film will be “a study of how human beings interact in this little laboratory that is a plane” and “will look at how modern human beings are wrecked under these circumstances.”
He also added that he hopes the movie ’causes the biggest walkout in the history of Cannes Film Festival’, which gives you an inkling into just how outrageous this project might be.
First up for Reeves is Good Fortune though, which is set to release on the 17th October here in the UK. In the meantime, here’s that trailer below.
