Two new sound stages will be up and running in Liverpool by this time next year, as permission is given for construction to go ahead.

Planning permission has been given by Liverpool City Council for the relatively quick construction of a pair of 20,000 square feet sound stages.

They’ll be the first purpose-built stages of their type in the city, and they’re set to be constructed on land next to Liverpool’s famous Littlewoods building. Building will now begin on the stages – designed to attract even more film and TV work to the area – in the next week or two.

The plan is to have them up and running swiftly, with an opening date of spring 2021 in mind.

Netflix’s Munich 38 is currently filming in Liverpool, and the likes of The Batman and The Irregulars have been shooting there in recent times too.

The Littlewoods building itself is, further down the line, set to become the Littlewoods Film Studios as part of an ongoing investment in film and TV production in the area.
