Disney has given the green light to Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges to write and direct an as-yet-untitled film about an Indian princess.
Gurinder Chadha is a director whose name guarantees a mark of quality on a project. Whether it’s the wonderful Bhaji On The Beach, Bend It Like Beckham, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Bride and Prejudice, Viceroy’s House or the utterly joyous Blinded By The Light, her filmography is full of fantastic films. Film Stories recently interviewed Chadha for a live podcast episode, which you can listen to here. In that podcast too, she hinted at the many films that she had planned. Now one of them has come to fruition.
For now, Disney has commissioned Chandha and Paul Mayeda Berges to make a film about an Indian princess. She and Mayeda Berges will write the screenplay while Chadha will direct.
Not much has been revealed about the plot, but it is said to be “inspired by a dynamic princess from Indian history”.
