A trove of never-released Halo maps, enemies, guns and vehicles has been dug from the archives and made playable in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Last year, Halo maker 343 Industries said it was working with a team of community modders called Digsite to restore a whole slew of cut content to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Now, weāre seeing some of the fruits of their efforts.
Halo was originally envisaged as a real-time strategy (RTS) game, and the Digsite team has found a whole load of vehicles that were designed for this RTS incarnation. In addition, there are all sorts of maps, enemies, guns and vehicles that were cut from Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 while the games were in development. These have been found and, wherever possible, are gradually being restored so that they work within Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
As reported by PCGamesN, and discussed in detail by the Digsite team on Halo Waypoint, the vehicles from the Halo RTS era ā including a bloody great big UFO ā have been recovered, although they currently canāt be used in game. However, thereās nothing to stop modders from tinkering around with them and getting them up and running.
There are also a number of cut vehicles from Halo 2 that can be used in game, including the gullwing-doored Uberchassis, and the adorably tiny Piglet.
Perhaps most excitingly, there are tons of new maps out there, some of which were cut from the original games or designed. Others appeared on the original Gearbox PC port of Halo but havenāt re-emerged since. And in addition, there are loads of enemies that never made it into the original game, including the giant Sharquoi, the sniping Slugman, and the Covenant Masters, which are controlled by a collar which can be shot off to release their minds.
Digsite is planning to share links to allow the cut content to be downloaded through Github or Steam Workshop, and promises that more content will be revealed soon. In the meantime, take a look at the Halo Waypoint post for a full list of the maps, weapons, characters and vehicles that have been shown off so far.
