After three series of Heartstopper, Netflix is set to bring Joe Locke and Kit Connor back for a feature film. More on the news below.
Heartstopper, Netflix’s popular and acclaimed drama series about two teenage boys falling in love, is set to return to our screens once more, this time in the form of a feature film.
Netflix began adapting Alice Oseman’s graphic novels into a series back in 2022. Three seasons were released, with the latest one debuting in October 2024. Starring Joe Locke and Kit Conor – who is currently starring in Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland’s Warfare – the series has been well received by audiences and critics alike, but its future has seemed uncertain until now.
Netflix announced the new feature film, to be directed by Wash Westmoreland, on X (or Twitter if you’d prefer) on 22nd April. The film will be based on Oseman’s upcoming book and will wrap up Charlie and Nick’s love story. Connor and Locke will both serve as executive producers for the film, which Oseman will also write. Production will start later this summer.
Locke plays Charlie who finds himself attracted to Nick (Connor) as he’s assigned to sit next to him in his new form and the two quickly develop feelings for each other. Heartstopper also explores the lives of their entire friend group, which includes a transgender girl and an asexual character.
Heartstopper has consistently been praised for its inclusive storylines, told with sensitivity and charm. The series holds an impressive 98% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and it’s one of Netflix’s most popular shows.
