Ahead of its September release, catch a look at Hellboy: The Crooked Man, written by the characterās original comic book creator.
We known for a while now that the latest adaptation of the Hellboy character will be called Hellboy: The Crooked Man, and that ā for the first time ā the screenplay has been penned by creator of the character, Mike Mignola, alongside his comic book collaborator Christopher Golden. Crank's Brian Taylor is directing the latest adventure for Hellboy, and the creatives will no doubt be hoping to recapture the magic of Guillermo del Toroās beloved brace of films.
While it isn’t the the reunion of del Toro and Ron Perlman (as the titular character) that fans have long been hoping for, the involvement of Mignola and Golden as screenwriters is promising, as is the reveal that the story will be smaller in scale than anything weāve seen from Hellboy before in the medium of cinema. Now we have a trailer that has arrived, giving us our first proper glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming film.

In the movie, āHellboy (Jack Kesy) and a rookie BPRD agent (Adeline Rudolph) are stranded in 1950s rural Appalachia. There, they discover a small community haunted by witches and led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past – the Crooked Man. Said man is Jeremiah Witkins, an 18th-century miser and war profiteer hanged for his crimes yet returned from Hell as the region’s resident Devil.ā
It does sound pretty cool, and will hopefully be better received than David Harbourās take on the character which came and went without much fanfare back in 2019. That version was helmed by Neil Marshall. Hellboy: The Crooked Man is coming to cinemas in the UK on September 27th and you can get a look at what to expect in the trailer below.
