Hoop Dreams to get UK Blu-ray release

The superb documentary Hoop Dreams is getting a special Blu-ray release in the UK next month – more details right here.

Comfortably one of the very best films of the 1990s? Yeah, there’s an argument for that. Steve James’ incredible documentary Hoop Dreams caused controversy on its release when it was snubbed by the Oscars for a Best Picture nomination or – it still rankles – a Best Documentary Feature nod.

Still, the furore at the time helped publicise the movie, and led to it getting a limited release in British multiplexes too.

Most of all though, it’s an incredible piece of work, and a landmark documentary. And now, a digitally restored Blu-ray edition is finally coming to the UK.

The film will be released by Dogwoof on 2nd November, and as well as a new high definition digital restoration, it’ll come with extra scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut of the movie. The trailer is thrown in for good measure.

You can find more information and order the movie here.
