Anya Taylor-Joy has signed on to play a daughter planning to kill her entire family in Netflix’s How To Kill Your Family adaptation.

After appearing in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy’s career has positively ballooned. She’s part of some of the biggest franchises, such as Dune and Mad Max, while also impressing in smaller films, such as Mark Mylod’s excellent thriller The Menu

The Furiosa actress is now returning to Netflix with another TV series. Taylor-Joy has signed on to play the lead in the streamer’s adaptation of Bella Mackie’s novel How To Kill Your Family, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. She will play Grace, the illegitimate daughter of a billionaire, who abandons her and her dying mother. Grace then starts plotting revenge and, as the title suggests, plans to kill her father’s entire family.

Emma Moran will act as the lead writer for the series while Taylor-Joy will produce through her LadyKiller label alongside Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger and Lee Morris for Sid Gentle Film.

“As soon as I turned the last page, I knew I had to be a part of bringing this story to life. After some (light) stalking of the inimitable Bella Mackie, I could not be more thrilled to be collaborating with the team that is Sally, Lizzie and Emma. I am looking forward to getting our hands even dirtier,” Taylor-Joy said of joining the project, which was unveiled at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

“It’s been thrilling to watch the characters I wrote take on new life under this magnificent creative team. Anya is the most perfect fit to play Grace: I often think she understands her better than I do. Pairing up with Sid Gentle has been joyful, and introducing me to Emma has made me supremely confident the book is in safe hands,” Mackie, who will also executive produce the eight-part series, added.
