A new take on I Know What You Did Last Summer is arriving, and here’s the full trailer for the sort-of-remake.

Sony has unveiled a look at the upcoming revival of its slasher horror series, I Know What You Did Last Summer. The film – which releases next month – marks the sixth instalment in the series but has been gifted the simple titling of the 1997 original.

Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Gabbriette Bechtel, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez all star in the new film, while Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson from the original movie.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will direct the film – she also co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky based on a draft by Leah McKendrick.

The first film in the series was written by Kevin Williamson, the mind behind 1996’s Scream, and those two films launched a new wave of late 90s slasher horror. 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was responsible for also launching (or furthering) the career of several teenage stars, with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe all appearing in the film.

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming film, set to release in the UK on the 18th July.

‘In the film, five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident. They cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.’
