Netflix has acquired the rights to Impact Winter, a horror podcast series, and is working with Francis Lawrence to bring it to the small screen.

The post-apocalyptic TV show market is pretty busy, but there must be room for one more, right? Letā€™s hope so because Netflix has acquired the rights to Impact Winter, a podcast series created by Travis Beacham, and is looking to develop it into a series of their own as reported by Deadline

In the series, a comet has hit Earth, causing eternal night and pitting humans against vampires. Deadline mentions that the original podcast has been described as a mix of 30 Days Of Night and The Last Of Us. We must admit, that’s a pretty intriguing combination and clearly one that works. Impact Winter is now on its 3rd season, with a fourth one on the way. Over 6 million people follow and listen to the podcast, which premiered in 2022.

Francis Lawrence is working with Netflix to make the podcast into a series. The director is currently working on The Long Walk, a Stephen King adaptation, and has also been teasing the long overdue Constantine sequel. Lawrence is also in talks to direct the next chapter in the Hunger Games franchise, due to be released in 2026 and based on Suzanne Collins’ new book. Lawrence has directed every Hunger Games film in the series except the very first one, so it’s safe to say he’d be a spot on choice for the job.

This isn’t Netflix’s first time adapting a horror podcast into a TV show. 2022’s Archive 81, based on a podcast by Daniel Powell and Marc Sollinger, never got the attention it deserved and was cancelled after just one season, but it’s a terrific show and worth checking out. Disney+’s The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfriend as Elizabeth Holmes, was also adapted from a podcast.

There’s no word when Impact Winter might make it to the screen, but we’ll keep you updated on that as well as other news on the series.
