James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet are looking to collaborate on High Side, a heist drama currently being pitched around Hollywood. More on the pair’s potential re-team below.

A Complete Unknown, this year’s Oscar-nominated Bob Dylan biopic, proved James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet were a match made in heaven when it came to filmmaking. Mangold got an electric performance out of Chalamet and A Complete Unknown scored eight Oscar nominations alongside several other awards nominations.

The pair are now looking to team up again, this time for a heist drama, High Side. Deadline has the scoop that the film, if it goes into development, would be based on Jaime Oliveira’s unpublished short story and Oliveira’s team is currently shopping the story around Hollywood.

Chalamet could play Billy, a former MotoGP racer whose career is destroyed by a tragic accident. He is drawn back into the world of high-speed racing when his brother recruits him for a series of robberies.

The plot sounds a little like The Place Beyond The Pines, but perhaps that’s not a bad thing. Deadline’s report promises “high-speed action and emotional twists and turns in the climax” and we’re always up for those.

Chalamet is currently busy filming Dune Part III for Denis Villeneuve and the star has reportedly been offered the lead role in Disney’s new adaptation of Sleepy Hollow.

Mangold is a busy man, too. He’s been working on Swamp Thing for DC for a while now, but James Gunn recently gave an update that Mangold hasn’t produced a script for the creature feature yet. For High Side to move forward, the pair’s schedules would need to line up perfectly, which is easier said than done with the two men in such high demand.

We’ll make sure to let you know if that happens.
