The British director of Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City will be tackling Border Patrol next, according to reports.

Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City launched this year and proved to be quite divisive with fans and critics. Whatever your thoughts about the film, it did an excellent job of faithfully recreating the world of the video game upon which it was based. The film, which was directed by Johannes Roberts (who you can catch chatting on the Film Stories podcast here,) certainly has its admirers and it looks like Screen Gems, the distributor of that film, is among them.

The studio has reportedly commissioned Roberts to helm Border Patrol, based on a spec script that Screen Gems has acquired from writers Noah Griffith and Daniel Stewart. Little else is known about the project apart from that James Wan is producing. The story itself is being kept firmly under wraps.

Roberts has been a director in demand since 47 Meters Down became something of a must-watch film upon its release back in 2017 (it notably overperformed heavily at the US box office). He was also one of the directors to be approached to film a segment for the latest horror anthology in the V/H/S/ series.

Griffith and Stewart have some pretty dark writing credits to their name in the form of the Swamp Thing TV series and The Mist too (the TV version, not Frank Darabont’s 2007 film).

When we hear more details about exactly what Border Patrol might be, we’ll let you know.
