Actor and filmmaker Jonah Hill will star and direct in the upcoming studio comedy Cut Off, expected to enter production later this year.

Jonah Hill has signed up to make Cut Off for Warner Bros, a studio comedy that is expected to begin production later this year after obtaining $10m worth of Californian tax credits. The project is in the fairly early stages of pre-production, having not yet assembled its cast. It marks the return of Hill to the director’s chair following Mid90s and Stultz.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is set to focus ā€˜on a pair of fraternal twins whose wealthy parents stop supporting them financially’ which sounds like a narrative conceit ripe for laughs. There’s no word as yet as to whether Hill will play both twins of if the film will be taking the Schwarzenegger/DeVito approach to casting.

Cut Off marks Hill’s continued return to narrative filmmaking following his Netflix documentary, Stultz, released in 2022. Mid90s was Hill’s 2018 directing debut and earned plenty of plaudits for its coming-of-age spirit and nailing the authenticity of the skating community. Since then, Hill has largely kept himself busy as an actor, where he isn’t doing too badly, either, having been nominated for Oscars on two occasions, for Moneyball and The Wolf Of Wall Street respectively.

Most recently, Hill has completed production on Outcome which he directed. Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz star in that project, which is set to follow Reef (Reeves), ā€˜a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past. He must confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip.’ There’s no word yet as to who Diaz will play. Hill will pop up onscreen in an unspecified supporting role.

Filming wrapped on Outcome almost a year ago, and the film is set to arrive on Netflix next January. As for Cut Off, we’ll bring you more on the film, including further casting, as we hear it.
