M. Night Shyamalan is busy working on a new film and Josh Hartnett and Saleka have been tapped for roles.
M. Night Shyamalan is back in the groove of making movies. Old may have been more a miss than a hit, but this year’s Knock At The Cabin was exceptional stuff.
The Sixth Sense director is already busy planning his next film. Previously called Trap and now filming under the title Good Grades, according to Film Updates, Shyamalan’s new film will star Josh Hartnett and Shyamalan’s daughter, singer-songwriter Saleka Shyamalan.
For obvious reasons, there are no plot details available for the film yet, but Shyamalan has previously described it as a “psychological thriller set at a concert”.
Saleka is rumoured to play a popstar while Hartnett plays a father who is taking his kid to the concert. We can only assume something chaotic ensues and there might even be a twist at the end. It’s a M. Night Shyamalan film after all.
This will be Saleka’s first film role in front of the camera. An accomplished singer-songwriter, she has previously provided original music for a few of her father’s films such as Old and his AppleTV+ show The Servant.
Hartnett, meanwhile, has been having an excellent year. The actor appeared in Christopher Nolan’s box office juggernaut Oppenheimer as well as in an episode of Black Mirror and Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
The film will be Shyamalan’s first film under Warner Bros., with whom he signed a multi-year contract after working with Universal Pictures on the last six of his films.
“Where I write and direct is my home,” Shyamalan said in a statement when the deal was announced. “Disney and Universal, where I’ve made most of my films, will always be home and family to me. Warner Bros. has a storied history of cinema. Through its recent experiences, the company has rediscovered its love and appreciation for filmmakers, and the impact of the theatrical experience. We all win when movies succeed in theaters. I believe David Zaslav, Michael De Luca, and Pam Abdy have dedicated themselves to unique filmmakers, and to filling theaters all around the world for years to come.”
A new M. Night Shyamalan film is always a reason to celebrate and we believe this is slated for 2024, there is no set release date yet. We’ll let you know when there is.
