You can add Kevin Bacon to the rather tasty cast of the planned Toxic Avenger reimagining: more details here.

We have to admit, with each casting announcement for Legendary’s Toxic Avenger reboot, we get a little more excited about the film’s prospects. We heard back in April that Jacob Tremblay was involved, the young actor from Good Boys, Wonder and Room, who can do comedy and drama equally well. Before that, we already knew that Peter Dinklage would be playing Toxie, he of Game Of Thrones and In Bruges, an actor who can, well, also do comedy and drama equally well.

Now, further enticing casting news has entered the mix with the announcement that Kevin Bacon has joined the film as a ‘slick villain’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bacon does a good turn in villainous, as we saw in Hollow Man and the underrated Super, directed by James Gunn. We’re looking forwards to seeing what he does opposite Dinklage in Toxic Avenger.

Toxic Avenger will be directed by Macon Blair, who helmed I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore. Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma, the original producers of the 1984 film, are also on board on the production team.

The story behind Toxic Avenger combines standard superhero origin elements, but with an environmental and subversive twist.

The synopsis reads: when a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.

We’re on board for this one and will bring you more as we hear it.
