The biopic of KISS ā€“ Shout It Out Loud ā€“ is set to be directed by Terminator Salvation and Charlieā€™s Angelsā€™ McG ā€“ more here.

Biopics of bands and music stars are proving to be solid box office, as even the middlingly-received Bob Marley: One Love demonstrated earlier this year. As these words are being written, preparation work continues on a biopic of the Bee Gees that Ridley Scott will be directing next year, while Sam Mendes is going three better, and putting together four films about The Beatles.

There’s been talk about a KISS biopic meanwhile for a few years now, and it was back in 2021 that it looked like it was going to happen. Joachim Ronning was going to direct at that point, and it was going to be made with Netflix money.

Netflix appears to have dropped out of the project though, perhaps part of its newly-found frugality towards movies. In instead come STX Entertainment, which no longer distributes its own movies, but still produces them. STX is said to be nattering to Lionsgate, with a view to the latter distributing the feature.

Darren Lemke has penned the latest draft of the screenplay, the latest in a line of scribes that’s included William Herron and Ole Sanders. And with Ronning – who directed this year’s impressive Young Woman And The Sea most recently – no longer on board, attention has turned to McG instead.

McG of course sprung to feature film attention with the first two Charlie’s Angels films, that in turn got him the surprise gig of directing Terminator Salvation. McG is currently directing Way Of The Warrior Kid, that Chris Pratt is headlining. He’s said to then be moving onto the KISS film – entitled Shout It Out Loud – by the middle of next year.

McG’s background in music videos was said to be one of the factors in him landing the job. No word on casting yet, but as always, we’ll keep you posted as and when we hear more.
