The Monkey has just arrived in cinemas, Longlegs was last year ā€“ but director Osgood Perkins has Keeper to come in 2025.

Osgood Perkins directing career certainly has plenty of momentum right now, and according to a report that emerged over the weekend, he has no plans to slow down.

Although heā€™s been directing films for a decade ā€“ debuting with 2015ā€™s The Blackcoat’s Daughter ā€“ Perkinsā€™ stock has never been higher. Last yearā€™s Longlegs was a horror sensation while his follow-up project, The Monkey, has just released to reviews that have largely admired just how wildly different the horror comedy is to its predecessor.

Of course, horror is a broad canvas, and Perkins is set to follow up the outlandish horror comedy of The Monkey with something that he has described as ā€˜small, intimate and weird.ā€™ Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Perkins has revealed that he shot his next film ā€“ Keeper ā€“ while the Hollywood strikes of 2023 had suspended production on The Monkey.

According to the director himself, he found a Canadian writer by the name of Nick Lepard, who wasnā€™t in the WGA, to pen the script.

Canadian actors ā€“ who would waive their Screen Actors Guild status and work as Canadians too ā€“ rounded out the small cast, with She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany leading the ensemble.

Perkins describes the film as ā€œa single-location, cabin-in-the-woods horror film, but it’s really a relationship horror movie. It starts with ‘oh, we’re going to his country house for the first time,’ and then suddenly, things go off the rails.”

The filmmaker and Maslany enjoyed collaborating so much that he cast her in The Monkey as Keeperā€™s production ended and he found himself back in the midst of pre-production on his take on Stephen Kingā€™s short story. A teaser for Keeper was even shown at the end of certain press screenings for The Monkey, with its tone said to be closer to Longlegs than the black comedy of Perkinsā€™ latest film.

Neon has reportedly slated Keeper for an October release so thatā€™s when weā€™ll likely see it here in the UK as well. Weā€™ll keep you posted on this one and bring you more on it as we hear it.
