BBC is producing a new TV adaptation of Lord Of The Flies from Jack Thorne and Hans Zimmer is set to provide the score. More on the series and its cast below.

Word has reached the Film Stories newsdesk that the BBC is working on a new TV adaptation of Lord Of The Flies. The series will consist of four episodes, each an hour long, and Jack Thorne is scripting the whole thing.

Deadline has revealed the series’ cast, all young actors with no previous experience. David McKenna will play Piggy while Winston Sawyers is on board as Ralph, Lox Pratt as Jack, Isaac Talbut as Simon, and Thomas Connor as Roger. Noah and Cassius Flemyng will play twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner will appear as Bill. There will also be roughly 20 other actors playing the rest of the stranded boys.

Marc Munden is directing the series and Hans Zimmer has also joined the project to score. With production currently underway in Malaysia, we can expect Lord Of The Flies to look and sound exceptional.

Based on William Golding’s book from the 1950s, Lord Of The Flies finds a large group of boys stranded on a tropical, deserted island following a plane crash. With no adults around, the boys create their own society with leaders and rules, but as you might expect, it goes downhill pretty quickly.

ā€œI still can’t believe we have been given the opportunity to film this beautiful book,ā€ Thorne said. ā€œThe first few days shooting show that our cast are extraordinary and that Marc is finding a whole new visual language in capturing the wonders of them and the beauty of Malaysia. He is an incredible storyteller. It is all so exciting.ā€

The 1954 novel has been adapted for film, radio and comic books several times, but this is the first TV adaptation of the story. Luca Guadagnino was also due to direct a film adaptation, but we haven’t heard anything new on that for over a year. The project might just be on hold, mind you. Guadagnino is a busy man, having just premiered his latest film Queer at the Venice Film Festival.

Lord Of The Flies is due to do some more filming in the UK later this year, but the BBC hasn’t announced a release date for it yet. We’ll be sure to let you know when there is one.
