Idris Elba has been chatting about a possible Luther movie again, and he insists that “it is happening”.
Over the weekend, the BAFTA television awards took place here in the UK, albeit virtually rather than in a big posh room. One of the recipients of the gongs was Idris Elba, and – following on from his words earlier this year on the same subject – he confirmed that plans are very much afoot for a movie of the hit TV show Luther.
“I’ve maintained I’d like to see it come to a film, and that is where I think we are heading towards – a film”, he said during a Q&A following the awards. “And I’m looking forward to making that happen. It is happening”.
He added that “with film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines. And a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther”.
Which is all good news, although it’s a little way yet from the movie pressing forward. As we get news of a director and a start date, we’ll let you know. For the minute, the signs are good…
