Everyone’s favourite killer doll is back in the M3GAN 2.0 trailer, this time with added Britney Spears. Take a look.
M3GAN, director Gerard Johnstoneās horror thriller about an AI doll going haywire and doing a bit of dancing before killing a bunch of humans, turned out to be a major success for Universal Pictures in 2021. Audiences simply couldn’t get enough of M3GAN, so naturally, she had to come back for more mayhem.
M3GAN 2.0 is bigger and more outrageous, at least based on the trailer, which you can watch below.
M3GAN is getting some upgrades in the new film as she goes head to head with another advanced android. The trailer is appropriately set to Britney Spears’ āOops, I Did It Againā and we have no doubt M3GAN will still be up to no good when it comes to protecting Cady.
James Wan, Jason Blum and Allison Williams are producers on the film while Johnstone returns as a director. M3GAN 2.0 will hit UK cinemas 27th June, so you can get your fix of your favourite homicidal plaything then.
M3GAN 2.0 also arrives as our attitudes towards AI are getting more and more wary, even as an increasing number of industries embrace it. Thankfully, it seems that Johnstone and co are treating the subject matter with just enough of black humour.
We’ll leave you with a full, and pretty detailed, synopsis:
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.
With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.
