After 17 years with Marvel Studios, the president of post-production at Marvel – Victoria Alonso – has suddenly left the company.

Victoria Alonso, one of the highest-profile names behind the scenes at Marvel Studios, has abruptly left the company after 17 years. Alonso has been with Marvel Studios since 2008’s Iron Man, the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back then, Marvel Studios was operating in an office space above a car dealership in Beverly Hills. Now, dozens of films later the company has become one of Hollywood’s greatest ever success stories and Alonso has been instrumental in that success, which included a promotion in 2021 to president of physical and postproduction, visual effects and animation production.

Whilst The Hollywood Reporterwho broke the story, is stating that the reasons for her departure are ‘unclear’, the news will spark speculation that Alonso’s departure is connected to some of the post-production issues that have plagued Marvel films of late, including poor-looking CGI and discontent within the VFX community regarding the way that Marvel Studios treats them.

Alonso has produced other films during her Marvel tenure, including the acclaimed recent documentary, Argentina, 1985 so there’s a chance that she has simply decided to pursue different avenues for her career. But in the absence of any official comment, as well as the sudden departure coinciding with Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania's recent disappointing release (a film some people really like, to be clear and fair), speculation will be rife that this is a move from Marvel to try and change things in the wake of a series of problems. When the studio announce the details regarding Alonso’s successor, we’ll let you know.
