The Spiderman spin off movie Madame Web is moving forward at Sony, and casting news has landed.

The world of Spiderman is expanding once again. After Venom, its sequel Let There Be Carnage and, most recently, Morbius, Sony is adding to its slate of Spidey spin offs with Madame Web, based on the Marvel comics by writer Denny O’Neil and artist John Romita Jr.

It will be the first female fronted Spiderman project, and is described as an origin story for the psychic, who can see into the spider world.

Celeste O’Connor, most recently seen in Ghostbusters: Afterlife will lead the project, alongside Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney.

The screenplay for this one has been penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the writing team behind Dracula Untold and Morbius, amongst others. It will be the feature film debut of prolific television drama director S.J Clarkson.

Madame Web is set for release on 7th July 2023.
