With Greta Gerwig’s Barbie on the horizon, Mattel has released a new line of Barbie dolls based on the film’s characters.
It’s set to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, and now Greta Gerwig’s incredibly pink blockbuster has a line of tie-in dolls, courtesy of
Mattel (of course).
With Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starring as the film’s main Barbie and Ken, the new line of dolls shows off some of the looks their characters will be wearing.
Among the new dolls are Barbies wearing the pink gingham dress Robbie wears in the movie’s trailer, as well as the hot pink western outfit revealed in movie stills. Gosling’s stripy beach outfit is featured on one of the Kens, as well as a double denim look.
Other actor’s characters also appear in the new range. Issa Rae, who’ll be playing a Barbie who’s President in Gerwig’s film, has also got her own doll. One of the Kens, who wears a white and gold tracksuit, is based on Simu Liu’s character. It’s described on the site as a ‘disco tracksuit’, so maybe we can expect some disco moves from Liu during the film?
There’s also a doll of Gloria, who’ll be played by America Ferrera in the movie.
In addition to the dolls, there are also plenty of accessories, with an additional fashion pack available, and the pink convertible from the trailer.
It looks like Mattel is taking full advantage of the buzz around Gerwig’s film by doing some serious marketing. I can only imagine how weird it must feel for the actors to know there are dolls of themselves on the shelves…
Barbie will be in cinemas on 21st July.
