AppleTV+ has renewed Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters for season 2 and announced a bunch of spin-offs too. More on that news below.
It’s a good time to be a Godzilla fan. Not only did Godzilla Minus One just collect the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, but Godzilla x Kong is also currently dominating the box office. And now, AppleTV+ and Legendary have announced that they’ve greenlit a second season to Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters.
The first season premiered on the streaming service last November and was generally well-reviewed. The series starred Kurt and Wyatt Russell, Shōgun’s Anna Sawai and Anders Holm.
On top of season two of Monarch, Legendary has promised that more MonsterVerse spin-off series are also on the way.
“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, AppleTV+’s head of international development.
“We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise, as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”
The first season of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters unfolded in two timelines; part of the plot took place in the 1950s with Wyatt Russell playing a young Lee Shaw, a US colonel and Kurt Russell playing an older version of him, set in modern day, whose knowledge of Monarch’s doings proves dangerous. Sawai and Ren Watabe play two siblings who are on the hunt for their missing father but discover his affiliation with Monarch.
AppleTV+ didn’t mention a release date for the second season of Monarch nor any details on the spin-off series but we’re sure hoping to see more Titans sooner rather than later.
