Monk is the latest series to get a belated film sequel, and details on the project have landed.

Monk was a delightful show that saw Tony Shalhoub take on the title role of Adrian Monk, a detective whose obsessive compulsive disorder made him almost impossible to work with, but it also meant that he was unusually skilled in noticing the little details when solving a series of impossible crimes. An overarching story which ran through all eight seasons was Monk’s quest to discover who murdered his beloved wife Trudy.

The show ran for eight seasons from 2002 to 2009. All of the main cast – Shalhoub, Traylor Howard, Ted Levine, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Hector Elizondo – are returning as Natalie Teeger, Captain Leland Stottelemeyer, Randy Disher, Trudy Monk and Dr Neven Bell, respectively. The only main series cast member not confirmed to be returning is Bitty Schram, who played Monk’s first assistant Sharona Fleming. She left in season three but returned as a guest star in season eight.

Creator Andy Breckman has written the script, which is titled Mr Monk’s Last Case. It will see Monk solve his most personal case yet, involving his stepdaughter Molly, played by Veronica Mars alumnus Alona Tal, also returning from the series. Regular series director Randy Zisk is back behind the camera.

During the events of 2020, the cast and creative team reunited for a one off Monk sketch for The At Home Variety Show, which you can watch here.

Mr Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie will be released on the Peacock streaming service, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
