Danny Sutcliffe, Clint Boon and Smug Roberts star in Leif Johnson’s screwball comedy, out in March. Here’s the trailer and more details on Mr Doom – Behind The 8 Ball.

Leif Johnson’s feature debut, Mr Doom – Behind The 8 Ball, has a hell of a premise. The film sets out to reimagine “The Color of Money in a small-town setting, with a modern-day spaghetti western twist, where pistols are swapped for pool cues.”

The comedy stars Danny Sutcliffe, Danny Parsons, Clint Boon and Smug Roberts and the film has been on Johnson’s mind for a long time.

“I feel like I’ve been preparing for this film my entire life. I came up with the concept for Mr Doom – Behind the 8 Ball in lockdown, when I was looking to devise something with minimal locations to ensure we could move ahead with production, but, once I had the idea, it felt like a story I was meant to write.”

Take a look at the trailer:

Johnson based many of the film’s characters on people who left a lasting impression on him, often seen in the local pub.

“Coming from a working-class family in a bleak northern English town, I drew inspiration from real-life characters who left a lasting impression on me. These larger-than-life local legends, often found in their neighbourhood pub, had no steady job or career, yet always seemed to carry a healthy wad of cash. They were constantly working some kind of hustle or money-making scheme. I was fascinated by these pub storytellers, always spinning tales—most of them far too colourful for young ears. I loved every bit of it,” Johnson said.

Mr.  Doom is heading to digital retailers – Amazon, iTunes, Sky, Google Play, and Rakuten TV to be precise – on 3rd March. However, if you find yourself in Manchester on 27th February, the film will have a fancy premiere at HOME Manchester.

They’re giving out free tickets to the premiere and you can grab one here if you’d like.

We’ll leave you with a proper logline: Jack and Charlie are an unlikely pair on a dangerous path to self destruction in a world of their own design. Both struggling to keep up a bygone lifestyle that revolves around a green felt table with six pockets and sixteen balls.
