There’s an early Christmas present on the way for David Fincher fans, with his next film set to debut on December 4th – trailer here.

UPDATE: Here’s the brand new trailer for the movie that’s just been released.

From October 9th:

Netflix has released a release date alongside a teaser trailer for David Fincher’s long-awaited next Film project, Mank. The biopic, based on the life of legendary Hollywood screenwriter Herman Manciewicz, will hit the platform in December 4th and will mark Fincher’s first feature release since Gone Girl back in 2014.

Manciewicz, who penned such Hollywood classics as Citizen Kane, The Wizard Of Oz and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, endured a contentious time working with Orson Welles during the scripting of Citizen Kane, and it’s this passage of the writer’s life that the story will follow.

Shot in black and white, the film features Gary Oldman as the title character alongside Lily Collins, Charles Dance, Tuppence Middleton, Arliss Howard, Ferdinand Kingsley, Jamie McShane, Joseph Cross, Sam Troughton and Toby Leonard Moore.

The script for the film was penned by Fincher’s own father and is said to be a long-standing labour of love.

Mank follows a string of projects Fincher has pursued and in turn abandoned, but continues the relationship with Netflix that Fincher first forged in 2012 when he oversaw the establishment of the TV political drama, House of Cards. The success of that show helped the streaming platform to gain its considerable market share.

Whether the director, notorious for demanding creative control over his projects, will look to Netflix for future projects remains to be seen. But in the meantime, we can look forward to viewing his latest release in just a couple of months. If you can’t wait that long however, feel free to feast on the short teaser trailer below…
