A new cut of The Godfather Part III is heading to Blu-ray and download in December – and here are more details about it.
30 years ago, Francis Ford Coppola released – to huge fanfare – the concluding chapter of his Godfather trilogy. But whilst The Godfather Part III earned seven Academy Award nominations – including Best Picture – it’s pretty much always been regarded by distance as the weakest film in the series.
However, for its birthday, Coppola has now re-edited the movie, and the film has been fully restored too. The result is a new version of the film, now called The Godfather Coda: The Death Of Michael Corleone.
To quote the official blurb:
“‘Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone’ is an acknowledgement of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became ‘The Godfather: Part III,’” said Coppola. “For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to ‘The Godfather’ and ‘The Godfather: Part II’ and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.”
Furthermore, a trailer has now been released too…
The new version of the film will now be released on December 7thth in the UK, on Blu-ray and on download to buy. You can find out more and order a copy here.
