Acclaimed 1991 gangster movie New Jack City is being remade.

Directed by Mario Van Peebles and starring Wesley Snipes, Ice T, Chris Rock and Allen Payne, New Jack City wasn’t just a hit movie in 1991, it’s one that’s endured. The film was penned by Thomas Lee Wright, and it’s enjoyed a rather good relatively recent Blu-ray release in the UK too.

Now comes the news – as you probably guessed from this article’s headline – that it’s being lined up for the remake treatment. The new take on the gangster movie will be produced by Bill Gerber and Doug McHenry, although at the moment there’s no director attached. These is a writer though, with Malcolm M Mays penning the screenplay for the new film.

No word yet on timescales or further personnel, but as we get more details, we’ll let you know.
