Universal’s reimagining of the Dracula tale, Renfield, now has a trailer – and we get a good glimpse of Nicolas Cage as the legendary vampire.
Starring Nicholas Hoult in the titular role, Renfield is set to be an unconventional take on the classic Dracula story. It focuses on Dracula’s human servant, who’s fed up of taking care of his blood-sucking master and seeks a normal life. Chris McKay is in the director’s chair, with the screenplay written by Ryan Ridley.
With Dracula played by Nicolas Cage, we were expecting the film to take a more comedic approach to the story, and the first trailer seems to confirm that.
It begins with Renfield running into a self-help meeting, where he explains Dracula’s controlling behaviour. We also get a glimpse at some of Hoult’s character’s special abilities, and it seems we can expect some thrilling and bloody fight scenes.
The trailer also gives us what we really wanted all along – to see Cage in the Dracula role. Watch it for yourself below; he doesn’t disappoint.
Also starring in the movie are Awkwafina as traffic cop Rebecca Quincy, Adrian Martinez as her partner and Shohreh Aghdashloo as Ella, a local crime boss.
Renfield will be released in cinemas on 14th April.
