New Spongebob Squarepants film Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is heading to Netflix, and here are the first details.
Spongebob Squarepants is one of the most iconic, not to mention, successful, shows to emerge from Nickelodeon. A huge hit from its launch in 1999, it is still running today and is the highest rated show on the network.
The character first made the leap to the big screen in 2004, and since then there have been two further films – Sponge Out Of Water in 2015 and Sponge On The Run in 2021.
A fourth theatrical film remains in development, but it has now be confirmed that another feature will premiere on Netflix in 2024.
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will follow “all its denizens are suddenly scooped out of the ocean, and Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob SquarePants journey to Texas to save the town from a villainous plot”.
The voice cast will include Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy Cheeks, Tom Kenny as SpongeBob, Wanda Sykes and Johnny Knoxville.
Liza Johnson will direct from a screenplay co-written by regular Spongebob writer Kaz and Tom Stern.
Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will be released on Netflix in 2024, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
